Somali Defense Minister Condemns Trump's Remarks About Somalis

Somali Defense Minister Ahmed Faqi stated that Somalis will not accept any belittlement after U.S. President Donald Trump once again insulted them. In a message to Reuters, Faqi told Trump to focus on fulfilling his promises to American voters 'instead of being preoccupied with Somalia.' While expressing gratitude to the United States for its military support in fighting against al-Qaeda-linked extremists in the country, Faqi rejected the descriptions Trump used for Somalis. 'The Somali people are known worldwide for their hard work... They are known for their resilience in the face of hardships,' said the defense minister. Ahmed Faqi, Somalia's Defense Minister, said that Somalis will not accept being belittled after U.S. President Donald Trump once again insulted them. 'They have faced difficulties and many enemies, including those who deny their right to exist, kill them, humiliate them, and insult them,' he continued. 'They have overcome all that and managed to survive.' On Tuesday, Trump condemned immigration from 'third world' countries during a rally in Pennsylvania. 'We always get people from Somalia, and those are shithole countries, aren't they?... They are dirty and disgusting and full of crime,' he said. He added, 'The only thing they are good at is chasing boats,' referring to piracy off the coast of Somalia. In late November last year, Trump announced he intended to halt immigration from 'third world' countries after an Afghan citizen shot two National Guard soldiers in Washington. He also threatened to cancel 'millions' of approved petitions granted under his predecessor Joe Biden and 'to deport anybody that doesn't add additional value to the United States.'
